NFU says money top Farm Bill challenge

The president of the National Farmers Union says money was the biggest challenge for the 2012 Farm Bill before the election and continues to be the biggest challenge.

NFU President Roger Johnson – at the Missouri Farmers Union Convention in Jefferson City – said there are 37 farm bill programs without baseline funding past 2012, including the new disaster program SURE.

Johnson says NFU is working with the Ag Policy Center in Tennessee to study ideas on how to manage costs.

But, job one, he says is to educate the new ag committee members, especially in the new Republican controlled  House.

Johnson says NFU has a long history as a bipartisan ag organization and what is needed is a strong bipartisan farm bill.
