Indiana corn harvest ahead of ’91 record pace

As of Sunday, September 12 the Indiana field office of the National Ag Statistics Service (NASS) reports corn harvest in Indiana was 13 percent complete, ahead of the previous record pace in 1991 when 10 percent of the corn was harvested. Harvest is 7 percent complete in northern Indiana, 11 percent in Central Indiana, and 30 percent complete in the southern part of the state.

At 69 percent mature, the corn crop is well ahead of both last year and the 5-year average. 56 percent is rated in good to excellent condition.

Soybean harvest is 7 percent complete and 60 percent of the soybean acreage is shedding leaves, 52 percent of the soybeans have a good to excellent rating.

With only minimal rainfall reported, pasture conditions continue to deteriorate, with only 14 percent rated good to excellent. Over half of the pastures in the state are rated in poor to very poor condition.
