Nebraska crops looking good

The first week of September found most of Nebraska’s crops in very good shape.

Corn was rated 81 percent good to excellent, with soybeans at 78 percent.  Corn was 83 percent dented, slightly ahead of average.  Eight percent of corn was considered mature, behind the 11 percent average. Twenty-nine percent of soybeans had turned color, slightly behind average.  Irrigators began shutting down systems, picking up pipe, and preparing grain bins and equipment for harvest.

Winter wheat seeding was underway at nine percent complete, with eight percent being average.
