6% of U.S. corn crop harvested

This year’s corn harvest is underway in some of the biggest production areas.

As of Sunday, USDA states 6% of the crop has been harvested compared to 2% a year ago and the five year average of 4%, with activity reported in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa and Missouri.

98% of corn is at the dough making stage, compared to 93% on average, with 86% at the dent stage, compared to the five year average of 71%, and 33% mature, compared to 19% on average.

69% of the corn crop is in good to excellent condition, down 1% from last week.

For soybeans, 19% are dropping leaves, compared to 7% last year and 15% on average, with 64% of the crop in good to excellent shape, unchanged on the week.

76% of the spring wheat crop is harvested, compared to 56% a year ago and 85% on average.

45% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, 3% less than last week and down 4% from last year.
