Ohio ag chief clarifies position

Ohio agriculture department director Robert Boggs is clarifying his position on the animal welfare agreement brokered by Ohio ag interests and The Humane Society of the United States.

Boggs was quoted last week as saying he considered the agreement “non-binding” on the Ohio Livestock Care Standards Board.  But in a statement released this week, Boggs says the agreement provides “a middle ground” on which Ohio agriculture “can move forward with a more clear, stable direction.”  He adds that the compromise agreement provides “a solid foundation for the board to build upon.”

Last week, HSUS head Wayne Pacelle reminded members of the Livestock Care Standards Board that HSUS could still proceed with an animal welfare ballot initiative in Ohio at some point.  He said it would depend on what the board does as it works through tough policy issues related to confinement of swine and poultry.

  • It doesn’t matter what the Ohio Livestock Care Standars Board does. Wayne Pacelle is going to guide his organization to anohter ballot initiative. He doesn’t collect donations for compromising. He collects donations for controversy.

  • “Pacelle reminded members of the Livestock Care Standards Board..”
yeah, sounds like an extortionist telling you that you have a really nice looking family.
