Iowa conference will discuss regulatory issues

A conference offering farmers timely insight into state and federal regulations impacting livestock and poultry production will be held Tuesday, August 24th in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

The conference, entitled “Doing Things Right: Farming for the Future”, is sponsored by the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers.  Executive director Aaron Putze says environmental and regulatory experts will be on hand to discuss regulations, and manure and nutrient management issues.

“The federal regulatory issues that face farmers are indeed increasingly complex,” says Putze. “When you layer those regulations on top of state regulations, that’s where it starts becoming somewhat ambiguous to some farmers, in terms of what are the requirements.”

Putze says there are certain situations that are especially complicated, “especially in terms of such things as common ownership or multi-species farms.  Also, the various thresholds—medium-sized CAFO’s are becoming increasingly focused on at the federal level.  We want farmers to be able to have the information they need so that they understand and know what’s expected of them.”

The conference runs from 9 to 4 on August 24th at the Best Western Starlite Village in Fort Dodge.  There is no cost to attend, but space is limited.  You are urged to pre-register with the Coalition to Support Iowa’s Farmers.
