“American Gothic” sculpture – AWESOME!

In the same vein as the Indiana State Fair’s Pioneer Village, the 25-foot tall sculpture “American Gothic,” inspired by Grant Wood’s iconic painting, will remind those visiting the 2010 Indiana State Fair of this country’s agricultural heritage.

“This piece of public art is a great opportunity for our visitors to capture a unique moment at the fair,” Cindy Hoye, the State Fair’s executive director, said. “We’re also hopeful that it will inspire conversation about the evolution of contemporary production agriculture.”

“God Bless America,” which has traveled to Chicago, Florida, Arizona and New York stands tall in the Dow AgroScience Celebration Park in the Northwest corner of the State Fairgrounds.

  I think that to give honor to the original artist, you should have noted that the sculpture is based on Grant Wood’s painting “American Gothic.” Otherwise, folks will think it’s a new piece of work. Not many Americans know their American art as they should.
