Dinneen’s frustration grows with E15 approval delays

The Congressional calendar is down to the wire, but Renewable Fuels Association (RFA) CEO Bob Dinneen is still hopeful that the ethanol blender’s tax credit will be extended before it expires at the end of the year.

“What I want to do is get past this current mood in the Congress in which very little gets done and hopefully next year be able to have a meaningful conversation about how to incent biofuels,” said Dinneen, in comments provided by the RFA.

Dinneen says the industry is frustrated with delays to allow for additional testing pending EPA’s approval of E15.

“They’re really counting the angels on the head of the pin with respect to whether or not consumers should be allowed to just choose, if they want to, to use a higher blend level,” said Dinneen. “One wishes, perhaps, that the agency had been anywhere near as diligent in studying the blow-out preventers BP was using in the Gulf of Mexico.”

The RFA and other organizations are pushing EPA to approve an interim move to E12, a blend of 12 percent ethanol in gasoline, while testing is completed.
