Rough rice stocks up on the year

USDA reports rough rice stocks in all positions as of June 1 totaled 57.408 million hundredweight, compared to 103.981 million at the end of last quarter and 48.366 million on June 1, 2009. On farm stocks were pegged at 6.310 million hundredweight and off farm stocks were placed at 51.098 million.

Long grain accounted for 64% of the total, with medium grain at 32% and short grain at 4%.

Milled rice stocks came out at 4.520 million hundredweight, all off farm, compared to 4.895 million on March 1 and 5.724 million June 1, 2009. The supply was made up of 3.28 million hundredweight of whole kernel rice and 1.24 million hundredweight of second heads, screenings and brewers rice.
