Role of 25x’25 in Enhancing National Security

Anyone interested in achieving a clean energy future and an energy-secure nation through renewable resources should make plans now to attend the 6th National 25x’25 Summit. This 2010 gathering of policy makers; farm, ranch, livestock and forestry leaders; state alliance leaders; congressional staff and federal agency representatives is set for June 29-July 1 at the Crystal Gateway Marriott, in Arlington, VA, where some of the nation’s foremost experts will address the role domestically produced renewable energy is playing in enhancing our national security.

Among those set to address the 25x’25 Summit are:

Vice Adm. Dennis McGinn, U.S. Navy (Ret.) – the former Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Warfare Requirements and Programs at the Pentagon. He also commanded the U.S. Third Fleet, which is responsible for some 50 million square miles of the eastern and northern Pacific Ocean. As Third Fleet Commander, he was recognized for leading great advances in operational innovation, the rapid prototyping of sea-based information technology, and international naval force experimentation and coordination. He is actively engaged in national forums to highlight the close link between energy and international security, and the imperative for innovative government policies, focused investments and effective deployment of technology to create a high-quality, sustainable global environment.

R. James Woolsey – the chairman of Woolsey Partners and a former director of Central Intelligence during the Clinton administration. He has long been an advocate of policies that stem the nation’s addiction to foreign oil by aggressively promoting home-grown renewable energy; energy efficiency; funding increases for research, development, and demonstration of advanced clean energy technologies; and the modernization and protection of the U.S. energy infrastructure.

Pentagon officials are also invited to address the summit.

Pursuing domestically produced renewable energy helps reduce the risks created by America’s dependence on foreign oil. Achieving the 25x’25 Goal will help diminish the threat to national security, bolster our international leverage, strengthen our foreign policy objectives, and disentangle America’s relationships with unstable or hostile regimes.

This year’s summit also will underscore the significant progress made towards the 25x’25 Goal, established six years ago as the objective of meeting 25 percent of our nation’s energy needs with renewable resources – biofuels, biomass, wind energy, solar power, hydropower and geothermal energy – from America’s farms, ranches and forestlands by 2025, all while providing adequate, affordable and safe food, feed and fiber.
