HSUS files complaint against egg producer

The Humane Society of the United States has filed a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission to stop an egg producer from making what HSUS says are false claims about conditions in the firm’s Iowa egg barns.

HSUS filed the complaint against Rose Acre Farms of Seymour, Indiana, saying that Rose Acre’s statements that it provides a “humane and friendly” environment for hens are misleading.  HSUS says its investigation of the company’s three Iowa farms showed otherwise, referring to an undercover video the animal rights group claims was shot in some of Rose Acre’s Iowa facilities earlier this year.

Rose Acre attorney Joe Miller said the company has not yet seen the complaint but stands behind its animal welfare program.
