Johanns has climate bill concerns

After his initial review of the Kerry-Lieberman climate bill, Nebraska Senator Mike Johanns says he has several concerns.

Johanns says the cap and trade provisions in the bill appear to be similar to what was contained in previous climate change legislation.  Those are the same provisions, Johanns says, that projected 59 million acres of new woodlands by the year 2050.

“If that’s what they’re anticipating—that they will move 59 million acres out of productive grassland or row crops—obviously you’re going to have an impact on a whole bunch of things, including food prices,” Johanns says.

Johanns says the Kerry-Lieberman bill would lead to higher costs for farmers and ranchers and would, in his words, “be destructive for agriculture.”

  • Well for a Nebraskan Sen Johanns is fairly sharp honest guy (unlike the other Sen. & his bribery scandal) Next, think about it, 59 million acres of lost farm and grass lands. Can you say food shortages? India and China will be the ones sending us bags of rice. The Washington elite will still be feasting on Lobsters, etc…so don’t worry about them.
