Former Neb. turkey plant sold to NY company

The former Nebraska Turkey Growers Cooperative processing plant in Gibbon, Nebraska has been sold.

Documents filed with the Buffalo County register of deeds list the purchaser as Midwest Meat Packing Facility LLC of New York.   The purchase price was 400-thousand dollars.  A formal announcement of the sale has not yet been made and further information as to what the new owner intends to do with the facility was not available.

The Gibbon facility was Nebraska’s only turkey processing plant when it closed in December of 2008, citing increasing feed and fuel costs.  The plant had 225 full-time employees and processed more than 20-thousand turkeys per day.
