More farm workers

According to the National Ag Statistics Service (NASS), the number of farm workers in the Eastern Corn Belt states of Indiana, Illinois and Ohio totaled 32,000 up 24 percent from January 2009. Average pay was $11.95 per hour.

Nationally, the number of farm workers totaled 767,000 in January, down 2 percent from a year ago. During the reference week, field workers received an average wage of $10.14, up 18 cents from last January, livestock workers at $10.26, earned a penny less than a year ago.
