Reports out of Washington indicate three key senators—John Kerry, Joe Lieberman and Lindsey Graham—are actively engaged in an overhaul of climate change legislation. And while Senator Graham has been quoted as saying that cap and trade is dead, other reports indicate the new plan won’t abandon that concept entirely.
Reuters quotes a Senate aide as saying the new legislation will include national targets for reducing carbon emissions and a mechanism for pricing carbon. But he says public details of the plan are still “weeks away.”
Meanwhile, there are reports that House Republicans may introduce a resolution today (Tuesday) that would nullify EPA’s authority to regulate greenhouse gas emissions. The resolution would be similar to a resolution of disapproval introduced in the Senate.
