While one of the main objectives of the Production Committee of the United Soybean Board (USB) remains soybean yields, the committee also recognized about four years ago that soybean research scientists were getting older, Rick Stern a soybean farmer from New Jersey and Chairman of the Production Committee tells Brownfield that in order to make sure researchers are available the USB began funding a Research Fellowhip.
“It makes you feel good as a checkoff program that we’re bringing new scientists and new potential scientists to the industry, that we’re giving back to industry as much as it’s giving to us as farmers,” Stern said.
This year’s Research Fellowship recipient, introduced at the USB meeting underway in Birmingham, Alabama is Landon Ries, who is studying at the University of Minnesota.
