President Obama announced four appointees to the Wisconsin Farm Service Agency State Committee. Fond du Lac dairy farmer Bill Averbeck will chair the committee. Averbeck, and his wife own and operate a 430 acre dairy farm. He is the 5th generation in his family to operate the farm. Averbeck has been farming since 1970. He recently served on his local town board, was a member of the Dairy Cooperative and served on the Central Area Council board. Averbeck also served on the board of the Cooperative Network and Farmers Health Cooperative. He has been involved in community and Church activates for a number of years as well.
Also appointed, George Huber of Clintonville. Huber has a dairy and grain farm and was named Wisconsin Business Man of the Year in 2005 by the Business Advisory Council. In the 1980s, he worked for the State of Wisconsin as a meat inspector. Mr. Huber has a B.S degree in Agriculture from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Patty Edelburg a dairy producer from Scandinavia is the third member named to the committee, she owns and operates Front-Page Holsteins. From 1998 to 2000, Edelburg was the Membership Services Coordinator for the Wisconsin Farmers Union. She also recently served as Vice President of the Wisconsin Farmers Union Board of Directors. Edelburg has a B.S degree in Animal Sciences from the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
The State Committee members will oversee the activities of the agency, including carrying out the state agricultural conservation programs, resolving appeals from the agriculture community and helping to keep producers informed about FSA programs.
