Tyson cuts case-ready meat output at Iowa plant

Tyson Foods has announced it is shifting a portion of its case-ready beef and pork production from its Council Bluffs, Iowa facility to plants in Texas and Tennessee.

Tyson says the continued growth of case-ready beef and pork sales in southern states has prompted the move.  The case-ready facilities produce packages of steaks, roasts, chops, ground beef and other items that are ready for the retail grocers to place directly into the meat case.

Tyson officials add that, if additional case-ready business develops in the Midwest, it would consider reinstating the production it is suspending at Council Bluffs.

The move will eliminate 480 of the 13-hundred jobs at Tyson’s Council Bluffs plant.
