Organic Valley donates milk to Second Harvest

The nation’s largest organic farmer cooperative is donating 28,800 single-servings of organic milk to Second Harvest in southern Wisconsin. Organic Valley Family of Farms will give 10,000 of the 8-ounce milks to the Second Harvest Back Pack Program in Tomah and Evansville. Backpacks filled with nutritious, easy-to-prepare foods are given to at-risk students before long out-of-school periods. The backpacks are discretely hung in the children’s lockers on the last day before a break. The children return the empty backpacks when they come back to school.

The Organic Valley milk will also be distributed to several of Second Harvest Foodbank’s partner agencies including food pantries. Dan Stein, President/CEO for Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin says demand for food assistance has increased and the donation from Organic Valley “Will help meet this need.”
