Iowa’s Economic Development Board has approved a 250-thousand dollar state loan to remodel and re-open a food processing plant in Charles City.
The Custom Poultry Processing group plans to buy the former Allstate Quality Foods plant and remodel it to process fresh chicken for specialty markets such as fresh organic and antibiotic-free. The facility is expected to process more than 14 million chickens per year and employ 126 people. Production is expected to begin by April.
The Allstate plant closed in 2006.
