A survey of one-thousand Americans shows food safety concerns to be the top food-related story of the year. That according to a report on meatingplace.com.
Two items related to the poor economy were next on the list. Second was the “the newly poor swell lines at food banks” and third was “consumers cut food spending sharply.”
Finishing fourth on the list of top ten food stories of 2009 was the pork industry’s concerns over the misnamed “swine flu” virus.
The survey also asked about the top food stories of the decade. Childhood obesity ranked first, followed by BSE in cattle and the rise in food safety concerns. “Genetically modified foods” was sixth and “Organic food becomes mainstream” was seventh.
