The Linden, Indiana ethanol plant previously owned by VeraSun Energy Corporation has been purchased by Valero Renewable Fuels Co, LLC. Currently idle, the 110 million gallon ethanol facility in Montgomery County is expected to be back in operation within 3 to 6 months following the closing which is expected in early 2010. In addition to the Indiana plant, Valero is also buying a facility at Bloomingburg, Ohio and a bankrupt plant in Jefferson, Wisconsin for $72 million.
The latest acquisitions bring Valero’s ethanol production capacity to 1.1 billion gallons per year. Valero Renewable also operates ethanol plants in Albert City, Charles City, Fort Dodge and Hartley, Iowa, Aurora, S.D., Welcome, Minn., and Albion, Nebraska.
Analysts say Valero is getting the three plants for about 40 percent of replacement cost.
