Target settles “Silk” dispute

Target has acknowledged it mistakenly misrepresented a soy milk product as “organic” in its advertising. The Minneapolis St. Paul Business Journal says Target told USDA it used a picture of an outdated carton for an ad for Dean Foods Silk.  The retailer was not aware that Dean switched Silk from “organic” to “natural”. Cornucopia Institute caught the mistake and filed a complaint. Target says it will review procedures to make sure nothing like this happens in the future. Cornucopia says it has “not observed any additional problems with Target’s advertising”, USDA says the case is closed.

Meanwhile, Cornucopia has filed a new complaint alleging Dean Foods was still misrepresenting Silk as organic on its White Wave website. Cornucopia says the offending reference was removed from the website after the complaint was filed.
