Iowa FB leader says legal action against EPA possible

One of the arguments used by proponents of cap and trade legislation is that, if Congress fails to act, the EPA will issue even tougher greenhouse gas regulations that could negatively impact agriculture.

But the president of the Iowa Farm Bureau says the threat of EPA action is not a reason to pass bad climate change legislation.  Craig Lang says there would likely be legal action if and when the EPA acts to regulate emissions.

“We don’t believe that the lawsuit that went to the Supreme Court affects agriculture,” Lang says. “It was narrowly defined to tailpipe emissions.  We think that will be subject to lawsuit and we’d rather says ‘no’ to the House and Senate bill than be scared into agreeing because of a threat of EPA.”

DTN reports that several major business and agricultural groups are signing up for a lawsuit against the EPA as soon as the first rule is out of the gate on climate change.
