The ethanol advocacy group Growth Energy is calling on the California Air Resources Board (CARB) to reopen public comment on its controversial low-carbon fuel standard.
Growth Energy says it has uncovered previously undisclosed documents from CARB consultants that cast doubt on CARB’s conclusions. Growth Energy CEO Tom Buis says the public records request confirmed what was suspected—that significant portions of the CARB staff’s environmental and economic analyses appeared to be based on assumptions, rather than technical analysis. Even more disturbing, Buis says, is the omitted comments from CARB’s consultants that contradict conclusions reached by the CARB staff regarding the carbon intensity of ethanol.
