Authorities suspect vandals caused 3,800 feeder pigs to suffocate in a hog confinement building near Hull in northwest Iowa. That’s according to a report in the Cedar Rapids (IA) Gazette.
The owner of the operation called authorities on Friday to report the incident. He told them that the controls to the building’s airflow system had been tampered with sometime during the night, causing the pigs to suffocate.
The loss is expected to be more than 200 thousand dollars. The Sioux County sheriff’s office says the case remains under investigation.
