Midday cash livestock prices

Cattle country is quiet today with bids and asking prices poorly defined. Generally speaking asking prices are around 86 to 87 in the South, and 133 to 134 in the North, DTN says they don’t expect significant trade to develop before Thursday or Friday.  Choice boxed beef at midday is up 1.30 at 138.07; select is .84 higher at 133.09.

Feeder cattle receipts at the Tri-State Livestock Auction, Mc Cook, Nebraska totaled 4,000 head on Monday, Compared to a week ago, steers and heifers under 600 pounds traded steady to 2.00 higher. Previous weeks receipts over 600 pounds were too few to make a comparison. Demand was good. Feeder cattle medium and large 1: 395 steers averaging 487 pounds traded at 107.01 per hundredweight. 412 heifers weighing 476 brought 96.67 at Mc Cook.

Iowa/Minnesota direct barrows and gilts opened 3.27 higher at 54.12 on a carcass basis, the West is up 3.20 also at 54.12, and the East is up .48 at 48.06. The Missouri direct base carcass meat price is steady from 42.00 to 47.00.

 At Sioux Falls, SD estimated sheep receipts are 400 head. Slaughter lambs traded mostly 3.00 lower. Shorn lambs at 90.00 to 90.50, and wooled from 89.50 to 90.00.
