The process used by POET during the ethanol refining process has led to a new co-product. Called “Inviz,” the new ethanol co-product has the potential of replacing petroleum based ingredients in a number of products.

“It’s used is say, pharmaceuticals, to put a coating on an aspirin or a pill so basically it’s easier to swallow,” said Scott Weisharr, V.P. of Commercial Development at POET. “But it’s also used on fruits and vegetables and other agricultural products just as a water barrier and natural preservative.”

Weishaar also tells Brownfield this new product takes the ethanol plant to a step closer to becoming a bio-refinery and the next step is to build the marketplace by re-establishing the product as a viable alternative to petroleum based products.
