The Michigan House of Representatives gave final approval Thursday to a farm animal welfare bill that imposes tough new regulations on pork and poultry producers.

The legislation was the result of a compromise between Michigan livestock groups and the Humane Society of the United States.  The state’s governor is expected to sign the bill, making Michigan the seventh state to ban gestation crates, the fifth to ban veal crates and the second to ban battery cages.
