National Milk task force sees four areas of change needed

The National Milk Producers Federation Strategic Planning Task Force has come up with a four-pronged approach to make the changes they see are needed in the nation’s milk pricing system.

For starters, the group wants to revamp the price support and Milk Income Loss Contract programs. Step two, create a dairy producer income insurance program; Third, improve participation in the Cooperatives Working Together (CWT) self-help program and fourth, reform the Federal Milk Marketing Order system including the elimination of unpopular aspects such as the federal make allowance and an effort to get California to join the federal program.

The Task Force has instructed NMPF staff to immediately begin fleshing out the operational aspects of the four elements.

In the near-term, National Milk continues to encourage members of Congress to pass the so-called Sanders Amendment to the Senate Ag Appropriations bill which would allocate $350 million to dairy producers this fall.
