Arkansas Senator new Ag Committee Chair

Senator Blanche Lincoln, a 7th generation Arkansan and the daughter of a farmer is the new Chairman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, taking over for Iowa Senator Tom Harkin who becomes Chairman of the Health Committee.

Senator Lincoln has been a member of the Senate Ag Committee since elected in 1998, she is the first from Arkansas, and the first female to serve as Chairman.

Stewart Doane, Sr. Editor for Agri-Pulse describes Senator Lincoln as a moderate.

“In terms of being able to be a consensus builder, look for common ground, she has worked with Republicans as easily on many issues as she has democrats,” Doane said.

When it comes to differences between Harkin and Lincoln, Stewart Doane anticipates the new Chairman will place more emphasis on Farm Bill implementation.
