Nebraska Wheat Board exhibit is big hit at state fair

One of the most popular stops at this year’s Nebraska State Fair has been the Nebraska Wheat Board’s exhibit in Ag Hall.

The Wheat Board is using its new mobile baking lab to bake and distribute cinnamon rolls, fresh bread and cookies to state fair visitors.   Nebraska Wheat spokesperson Zoe Olson says they handed out over 12-thousand food samples over the weekend, with lines sometimes stretching out the door.  Olson says it’s a great opportunity to educate the public about wheat.

“It’s always fun for us when people realize that white flour is actually made from wheat,” Olson says. “It’s really fun and exciting to watch people learn where their food comes from.”

The exhibit also features a miniature wheat mill that demonstrates how wheat is milled into wheat bran and flour.  Nebraska wheat farmers are on hand to answer questions about how wheat is produced.
