Raising bison in central Illinois
Terry Lieb and his two sons farm 3,400 acres of corn and soybean near Monticello, Illinois. Along with the row crops, Terry also keeps a herd of bison on the family farm. Terry tells Brownfield’s Ken Anderson that what started as a whim has turned into a fairly profitable enterprise-one that he hopes to grow in the future.
Love seeing buffalo in Illinois. I volunteer with the Starved Rock Foundation at Starved Rock State Park and have been attempting to push the idea of reintroducing buffalo to the park. The park has about 125-150 restored prairie acres that would allow for a small herd of wild bison. I am curious about the amount of acreage required to support a dozen bison. I have written the governor in the hopes of initiating the dialogue. Any info you could send me would be great. Thanks alot.
