Crop development slow in Illinois

Below normal temperatures and above normal rainfall, that was the story across the Land of Lincoln last week, and slow crop development is the result. 11 percent of the Illinois corn crop is silked, way behind the five year average of 57 percent. 60 percent of the corn crop is in good to excellent condition.

The same is true for soybeans, 11 percent of the crop is blooming, half of what it was last year at this time, but well behind the 51 percent 5-year average. Soybeans are rated 60 percent good to excellent.

Wheat harvest as of Sunday, July 12 was 85 percent harvested.

Pastures are doing well, 82 percent are in good to excellent condition.
