Lincoln’s ag vision exhibited at museum

The “Agriculture Vision of Abraham Lincoln” is a new exhibit at the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Museum and Library in Springfield,Illinois. Museum communications manager David Blanchette tells Brownfield there are many items of interest on display, for example, “An ox yoke made by Lincoln himself, a letter from George Washington about gardening written in 1799 and the only known intact 1918 John Deere all-wheel drive tractor that is still in existence.”Blanchette says this special exhibit is a natural tie-in to the life and legacy of President Lincoln. He says Lincoln had a lot to do with the way modern agriculture is today, “As president, he appointed the first US agriculture secretary, he supported federal programs to modernize farming and he is the one that ran through the land grant legislation that resulted in a lot of the colleges and universities that we have around today.”
